Eisenbahnmuseum Unterretzbach

Description

The Unterretzbach Railway Museum, a small but fine museum set up in Unterretzbach station, was established in 1987 thanks to an initiative by the Retz branch of the railroad workers' union. This initiative gave the listed building a new purpose and saved it from decay. Although there are more spectacular museums on this subject, the Unterretzbach Railway Museum offers fascinating insights into the railroad history of the western and northern Weinviertel. Historical pictures and plans of the Vienna-Znaim (Nordwestbahn), Sigmundsherberg-Zellerndorf and Retz-Drosendorf lines are on display. In addition, photos and showpieces document mining in Langau and Mallersbach as well as the everyday life of the railroad workers. It is also interesting to note that there was once even a narrow-gauge railroad in the town of Hollabrunn. The museum is located on the upper floors of the listed station building, so access is unfortunately not barrier-free. However, the museum staff are always ready to provide assistance if required.
